TexasLawHelp.org LiveChat Internship

More than ever, there is a need for online legal help. We're looking for passionate law students to work with Texans across the state.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

TexasLawHelp.org provides free, reliable legal resources — like court how-to's, self-guided forms, legal clinic calendars, and a directory of legal aid organizations. The site hosts LiveChat, a feature where visitors can connect with either a staff attorney, volunteering professionals, or student interns who can help them find the information needed to resolve their legal issue. Last year, more than 5 million people visited the site, and over 22,000 visitors used the LiveChat feature. The site is managed by Texas Legal Services Center.

THE TYPE OF WORK YOU'LL BE DOING

Within the LiveChat feature, you'll help visitors navigate the site and find relevant information for their legal issue. You will be using your legal knowledge to triage their legal situation then direct them to appropriate site resources like forms, clinics, legal aid organizations, and legal toolkits. As students, you will not be providing legal advice since no attorney-client relationship would be formed. A Texas Legal Services Center attorney will be on hand to review your work and be of help.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN

You'll learn how to interact with clients experiencing urgent legal needs directly and quickly collect facts, spot issues, and provide the appropriate legal information/resources. You'll gain exposure to the practical realities of the day-to-day practice of law along with a wide-range of civil practice areas, like family, consumer, housing, and estate law.
