A grandmother reaches out to TLSC's Kincare Program for assistance with navigating health benefits for her ill grandchild.
I was at a loss because I'm raising my 2 great grandkids. My oldest, who is 6-1/2 had a tooth hurting her, and she was supposed to see the dentist. Originally, their dental plan was through CPS, and somehow during some switch over, her dental plan changed.
The dentist’s office said you need to call the dental insurance company and tell them that you want her to continue seeing us. Well, I tried that. And they said you're not authorized on her account and told me that I needed to take my custody papers to a local Medicaid office. The Medicaid office gave me back my papers and said, oh, we can't do anything about this. You need to take it to CPS. I kept getting the run around between everybody. My daughter is very emotional, so she had a hard time getting comfortable with her dentist, which made me uncomfortable with changing her to another dentist. I didn't know what to do.
All this time my daughter hasn't been able to see a dentist.
Finally, at Children's Foster Clinic, I received this piece of paper that had Texas Legal Services Center on it, so I called them. They were wonderful because they were able to get in touch with the dental insurance company and find out what I could do. I did it, and now we have an appointment. I'm excited about that.
TLSC figured out a way to do this when I couldn't. I was really glad to have all that settled. Before that, I was at my wit’s end. I tried everything I knew how to try. It was very concerning for too long. TLSC are the people that can really cut through the red tape and find a way to help. I feel like they really care. Nicole, a TLSC attorney, saw a way to possibly get this streamlined quickly for my daughter's sake. I don't know what I would have done without TLSC.
